This year the Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield (LAFS) is proud to partner with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception’s First Friday Concert Series. "Priestly Praise", scheduled for Friday, May 6, 2022, is a concert that will feature Mark Gifford and the priests of the Springfield Catholic Diocese, both singing and performing on a variety of musical instruments. Staab Funeral Home, the sponsor of the First Friday Series, is also the principal sponsor of this year's Liturgical Arts Festival, a biennial interfaith event featuring a series of programs which are free and open to the public.

Fourth Street Springfield, IL 62702 The Liturgical and Sacred Art Exhibit at Springfield Art Association is part of the biennial interfaith Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield. It is a nationwide juried art exhibition. Liturgical arts are all the ways people connect with the Divine through creativity and beauty in the visual arts, in all mediums. The festival is inspired by the beautiful diversity of faith traditions within our own community. LAFS programs are accessible to those of any faith or none. Programs are free to the public. Part of the biennial interfaith Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield, a presentation by eminent local architectural historian Anthony Rubano on the art and architecture of one of Springfield’s mid-century modern gems, Sacred Heart Convent Chapel. Learn about the art and evolution of the chapel’s stain- glass windows. The talk begins at 7 pm. in Aquinas Center; but starting at 6 p.m. guests are welcome to enjoy self-guided tours of the chapel. An exhibition in Aquinas Center, Color and Light: Windows to the Soul, will highlight the parallel use of light, color and glass in other faith traditions. Admission is free.

Featured organists are Dr. Nichol Del Giorno, DeeDee Gain, J.B. George, Mark Gifford, Jamie Greenwald and Dale Rogers. Our special guests will include Diane Dietz, Trevor Goode, and Ethan Heinzel. The program also includes a wedding arts and apparel display inspired by the beautiful diversity of faith traditions within our own community. An original performance work by Leigh Steiner and Phil Funkenbusch, musical coordination by Sue Hamilton accompanied by musicians, Rachel Helton and Mary Lueking. Part of the biennial interfaith Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield. Liturgical arts are all the ways the people connect with the Divine through creativity and beauty: music, dance, drama, poetry, visual arts, and architecture. Staab; a presentation by Tim Krause, an expert in this field, will incorporate an exhibit of funerary objects’ de Art, mourning art, and traditions. “Giving Voice to Grief,” will have a variety of faiths perform chants, songs, music, bagpipes, and explanations of various faiths funeral rituals. New Orleans Jazz funeral, brass band parade and concert are part of the biennial interfaith Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield. As the Frank Parker band and Mark McKnight break out into more upbeat and swinging numbers join in and become part of the ‘second line’. The festival explores expressions of the soul and the spirit by showcasing excellence in a journey across the arts, inspired by the beautiful diversity of faith traditions within our own community.
